EVENINGS AND NIGHTLIFE

```
At night, Milan completely transforms, turning into an entertainment powerhouse. Whether you want a relaxed aperitivo, dinner at a trendy spot, some late-night shopping, a wild time on the dance floor, or simply a chat over a drink until 4 a.m., there is a neighborhood and a venue perfect for every moment of your evening.
Nightlife neighborhoods: the "In" spots and the "Offbeat" ones To navigate the city's nightlife jungle, you first need to understand the map of its neighborhoods. Reigning supreme among the "In" spots is Isola—the district beneath the Porta Nuova skyscrapers—frequented by thirty-somethings, designers, hipsters, and connoisseurs of fine drinks. Then there is Brera, refined and elegant, perfect for a classy drink amidst illuminated narrow streets; and finally, the Navigli and Darsena area—a timeless classic that draws students and tourists from every corner of the globe. If you are looking for something more "Offbeat," alternative, and underground, the must-visit spots include NoLo (North of Loreto), a multicultural and creative district teeming with pop-up bars and queer events; Porta Venezia, the city's most inclusive, colorful, and open-minded area; and the historic Colonne di San Lorenzo, where people gather outdoors to drink on the steps with a distinctly "street" vibe.
The Aperitivo: warming up the engines In Milan, the aperitivo is a sacred ritual that kicks off around 7:00 PM. For a taste of true history, head to Caffè Camparino in Galleria—one of Italy's most famous historic venues, located right at the entrance to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Ordering a Campari Seltz or a Negroni here is nothing short of a religious experience.
If, on the other hand, you’re after a super-stylish, contemporary vibe with a view of the Navigli, head to Rita & Cocktails (on Via Angelo Fumagalli)—a true temple of Milanese mixology with incredible cocktails—or to Mag Café, a vintage-style spot with an amazing atmosphere right on the Naviglio Grande.
Dinner: between tradition and trendy hotspots When dinnertime rolls around, Milan offers something for everyone. For a taste of Milanese tradition and an atmosphere that blends old-school *osteria* charm with a cool, modern vibe, Trattoria Madonnina (in the Ticinese district) or Osteria del Binari (on the Navigli) are perfect places to enjoy risotto and *cotoletta*. If you’re looking for a trendy spot where dinner meets music, hugely popular venues like Penelope a Casa (in the Porta Romana area) or Trippa (a cult modern *osteria* beloved by foodies—if you can snag a reservation!) promise memorable evenings where high-quality food pairs with a vibrant, buzzing energy.
Evening shopping: where to shop after sunset If the urge to shop strikes late in the evening, the area around Corso Buenos Aires and Via Torino is teeming with shops and chain stores that stay open late. However, for a more sophisticated after-dark experience, the concept stores and boutiques in the Brera district and along Corso Como stay open late into the evening, allowing you to browse vintage clothing, art books, and design objects either before or after dinner.
Where to go dancing: from historic clubs to techno temples When the night really kicks into gear, it’s time to hit the dance floor. If you love electronic music, techno, and international DJ sets, Amnesia Milano and Fabrique (in the Mecenate area) are true nightlife giants. If you’re looking for a historic, ultra-chic club frequented by VIPs, models, and footballers, a must-visit spot is Just Cavalli (Justme), located right at the foot of the Torre Branca in Parco Sempione. For a more pop-oriented, revival, and decidedly unconventional vibe, Alcatraz in the Maciachini area hosts themed nights where thousands of young people dance until dawn.
Where to find company: socializing and making new friends Meeting new people in Milan is incredibly easy if you go to the right places. The Colonne di San Lorenzo area is a massive open-air gathering spot where you can sit on the steps with a beer in hand and strike up a conversation with anyone within minutes. If you’re looking for an open, cosmopolitan, and super-friendly atmosphere, the bars in Porta Venezia along Via Lecco (such as the famous LeCCOMILANO or Blanco) are a hub for the LGBTQ+ community and for anyone wanting to party in total freedom, free from prejudice.
The nightcap: a cocktail to end the night Before heading to bed—when it’s nearly four in the morning and you’re not quite ready for the night to end—you need a "nightcap." The city's most iconic and legendary spot is Bar Basso (on Via Plinio): this is where the famous Negroni Sbagliato (made with sparkling wine instead of gin) was invented in the 1960s, and it remains a late-night haunt for bartenders, designers, and night owls. Alternatively, for a late-night drink with the atmosphere of a 1920s speakeasy, you could try to get into 1930—the city's most famous and well-hidden speakeasy.
